Daniel Bone
Story
This year I decided to throw my weight behind a beautiful cause. Great sadness touched the family of a good friend of mine and it reminded me of my own family’s sorrow. A sorrow that I bury within myself even now, so many years on.
Bears of Hope provides amazing support and care packages to the family’s of baby’s born to this earth but destined to fly only on the wings of Angels.
Beards of Hope is the blokes side of that. We sign up and seek sponsorship and donations. Throughout the winter months we grow our beards as a sign of solidarity and as a conversation starter to raise awareness for this all to common tragedy.
Unfortunately this year the universe has seen fit to throw a little spanner into my grand designs and start the clock on a time bomb in my chest. I have developed a cancerous tumour behind my sternum. My oncology team at the Calvary Mater Hospital in Newcastle have developed a Kung Fu treatment plan to kick this things arse but it does involve chemotherapy. I am going to lose all my hair, including the beard I have been cultivating for this charity.
Great story Bones… what’s your point?
The big shave I was planning for the end is being moved forward significantly. In fact it will be happening Sunday 11th July before chemo gets to steal my thunder. I will be going bare faced and bald on top too. This is very short notice but that’s the hand I’ve been dealt. I ask that as many people as possible throw into the hat. I don’t care if it’s $5 or $500, it’s for a bloody good cause. The price of a cup of coffee… to help the parents of an Angel baby cope, it’s not much to ask. Besides I reckon it’s safe to say that most of you have never seen me without facial hair. I’ve been clean shaved once in the last 15yrs.
***Due to my suppressed immune system this will be a closed event. Sorry guys, I can’t have visitors but the videos will be posted on Facebook to document the momentous occasion. It’s gonna be funny as a fart in a bottle. Easily worth it for the giggle factor. Get behind it.
